How does the ED Visa work?
Are you between 12 and 49 years old?
Do you want to live in Thailand?
Then you are welcome to enrol with us in a language course for 6 months or 1 year. The minimum duration for an ED Visa is 6 months.
We will then obtain all of the necessary documents for the visa application from the Ministry of Education and you will need to provide us with the following:
- Copy of your passport (main page and all stamped pages).
- 10 passport photos (for the 6 month visa), 20 passport photos (for the annual visa).
- Proof of residence in Thailand (rental or purchase contract for a house, condominium or apartment, or hotel reservation including a copy of the landlord’s ID). If not available, we can assist if you rent one of our school-owned apartments when you register with us.
- Completed application forms (you will receive the forms from us by e-mail).
- Deposit or full payment of the course fees (at least 50 percent of the total course fees).
As soon as we receive all of your documents, we process them and then submit your application to the Thai Ministry of Education.
The processing time takes between 3-4 weeks. You will then receive your approved documents, ready for submission to obtain a study visa.
With these documents you go to the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country to apply for the ED Visa, or, if you are in Thailand, you travel once a year to a neighboring country (preferably Laos, because of the easy processing) and submit your documents to a Thai Embassy or Consulate and receive your temporary visa there, which is initially valid for 90 days.
After your entry into Thailand you participate in a Thai language course 4 days a week.
Every 90 days you are required to go to your local immigration office with your school documents and extend your ED Visa for another 90 days.
Requirements
Individuals between the ages of 12-49 can apply for an ED visa for Thailand.
A prerequisite is regular participation in the school course.
As a student visa holder you are legally obliged to take part in the language courses.
This is monitored through spot checks by the Ministry of Education or the Immigration Service.
The lessons are spread over the whole year. As a rule, students have to participate in class 4 days a week for 2 hours each day (1 hour active learning, 1 hour group work and homework. Interruptions due to vacation are possible by arrangement.
